Paula Nelson Band
Client Paula Nelson hired me for a complete rebranding campaign. Client wanted to break out of the perception of being a solely ‘country music’ band and wanted to establish her own identity independent of her famous father Willie Nelson. The band’s existing visual identity and merchandise lacked both cohesion and the quality they desired. The rebranding needed to accurately represent their diverse influences and current musical direction while also staying true to their Texas roots. We met to discuss creative direction so that we could make a meaningful departure from their existing identity.
Developed cohesive branding across the whole range of their visual identity and merchandise.
Created a modular logo design using Paula’s handwriting and a clean, modern font. Logo can be arranged and used for a wide variety of contexts while still maintaining cohesion.
Photographed the band at Paula’s home in the central Texas hill country. The donkeys are famous amongst her fans, so we incorporated them into the new identity for one of her screen printed t-shirt designs in order to maintain a sense of continuity and playfulness.
Utilized variations of the logo and images from the photo shoot to create three different t-shirt designs. A carefully chosen color palette and high quality apparel appeals to a diverse audience. The designs bring a current look that appeals to a young, hip crowd while also being appropriate for the older, more conservative audience they find in many of their key markets.
The ‘Under the Influence’ design will be incorporated into their forthcoming album release.
