The same sky…
My heart is blue
like the sky
a shapeshifting cloud
writing loveletters
on the wind
three parts sunshine,
one part rain
if only cumulonimbus
would carry me away
… back to you…
There is a place
beautiful and mysterious
where the saguaro drinks
all year long
on the water
from a single downpour.
We are all thirsty
like this, unquenchable
a whole lifetime spent
on a parched earth.
To be as the saguaro –
to open ourselves
faithfully
to the same sky
that has the power
to burn us to dust
in the course
of an ordinary afternoon;
to offer ourselves
completely
arms open wide, trusting,
receiving what is given
nothing more, nothing less
patient, grateful,
satisfied –
that is love.
.
What will
become of me
as I go out
into that desert?
