Me + You

The Me + You series explores the passing of time evident in the cracks and multiple facades of walls throughout Italy, built over, painted over, and crumbling back away to reveal many layers of the past. The abstract compositions and Laura Lea’s playful addition of words and phrases capture both the inevitable decay of time and the possibility of creating anew. The photographs + mixed media images are printed onto 16×20″ aluminum plates and then float mounted onto 20×24″ aluminum plates which are likewise float mounted off the wall. Because the pieces project several inches into space, they do not read as typical two-dimensional works but, rather, as actual objects occupying the same space as the viewer. The viewer brings to bear his or her own narrative to participate in the experience of the work, allowing the tension between the decay of time and possibility for creation to play out within him or herself. Me + You is an invitation to engage that juxtaposition, entering a space that is more beautiful and open to possibility.
