Raven…
Raven revels in
this untamed magnificence
with every kaw! kaw!
.
In the canyonlands… on the white rim, watching the full moon rise, with Venus by its side. No other human in sight as far as the eye can see. For miles and miles and miles. There’s a whole lot of darkness this time of year, nearing winter solstice. Day yields the way to dark. Almost too cold for this Texas girl, but I’m tough and can suck it up long enough for the chance of epiphany. Or simply, solitude. The beautiful redrock canyon caught just right by the light kind of solitude… It’s blow your fuckin mind beautiful out here, this wide open middle of nowhere…
It just might break your heart, if you’re lucky now…
A terrifying, untamed magic of water and rock carved through… which one shapes the other? Wind does its slow, persistent work, carrying our unspoken hope and fear that we may discover in ourselves the place that rises up to meet the beauty and terror of this wilderness that stands before us. Raven and coyote weave their spells, echoing off canyon walls, a call to arms, a prayer that we may burn up all our hauntings in the desert sun and lay ourselves down into the long cold darkness to let it ripen us. The stars up above sing their most ancient lullaby, pouring in the heart spark and diamond light upon a wish set aflame, like them, we are lit from the inside….
